🎉 Congratulations to FSU member and CBUS representative Caroline Troup for graduating from the Anna Stewart Memorial Project! As part of this two-week women's leadership training and development program, Caroline got a behind-the-scenes peek at the work of the FSU. This project is designed to encourage more women to be active in their unions and drive meaningful change. We hope you enjoyed your time with us Caroline. 👏

The FSU has been at the forefront of advocating for workplace policies that support menopause and menstrual leave. We've produced a policy framework based on extensive research and drawing from Australian and international experiences of finance workers. The impact on individual workers forced to drop out due to unaccommodating workplaces is huge! Statistics show that women are leaving work 7.4 years earlier than men and data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics has shown early retirements equate to a loss of salary and super of more than $577,512 for women.Severe menopause symptoms can make work impossible, and current leave allowances are often insufficient. Menopause and menstruation leave is critical in creating equality in the workforce.

We've all played a crucial role in achieving IAG's impressive 37% profit increase last year. How can it be fair that CEO Nick Hawkins has awarded himself an 18% pay increase while suggesting that we deserve below industry pay? This is simply unacceptable!

The FSU spoke at the public hearing of the Senate Inquiry into menopause and perimenopause in Sydney yesterday. We emphasised the importance of "menopause and menstrual leave" instead of "reproductive leave" to better address the specific needs of workers. We also highlighted the impact on finance workers and advocated for every workplace in Australia to have a menopause policy. Increased conversation on this topic is crucial, and we appreciate the committee's engagement. Considering IAG was found to have committed wage theft for ripping off workers to the tune of a whopping $21 million, it’s no surprise that we can’t trust them to do the right thing by staff. If IAG wants to rebuild trust with workers, CEO Nick Hawkins needs to give us a fair pay rise that meets the cost of living, not just focus on profits.

How can we trust IAG after we discovered that many of us performing the same role are on vastly different pay. If IAG wants to rebuild trust, then it must replace pay secrecy with pay certainty!
